2002 project car update and new pics

Post by RoyW »

Well, good news and bad news.

First the good news, the car is coming along nicely and looks great. The bad news is that we won't get it finished in time for V@V... unfortunately we need a couple more weeks... all the little details and assembly issues are taking longer than we'd like, and we had some 3rd party delays with custom parts, e.g., half shafts, chroming bumpers, etc.

My (and Mario's) philosophy on this is that we've come this far and have done it right ... so, no short-cuts or "good enoughts". Sorry to disappoint those that were hoping to see the car at V@V next week. On the bright side, I'll be sure to bring it next year to V@V and it will be at O'Fest at the 'Glen this fall.

Here's a few pics from last week:

Very nice work, I like the suspension and steering rack conversions, I did the same to my old '02, also I love the color!

Roy, I've enjoyed following the progress on your '02. I think it'll be worth waiting another year to see it in person!

Great work Roy! ;) Now you have 3 e28's to chose from for the road trip to V@V. Which one will it be? :kewlpics: :dunno:

Just curious, what made you decide on the s14 instead of an s50/s52?
Very nice work tho!!

It keeps a closer balance to what the M10 had in the car. Also, the S14 just looks more at home int he '02s, rather than stuffing a big S50/52 in, the S14 is a great engine in all ways, I guess you'd just have to drive one to appreciate it. I can't even imagine what would be like in an '02 with all the work Roy is doing, he is basically building my dream S14 :D

I think I can speak for RoyW when I say that it keeps a closer balance to what the M10 had in the car. Also, the S14 just looks more at home int he '02s.
True, but a v8 would be awesome!

Roy, that's one beautiful car. Just visualizing it with the shiny bits installed makes me want one. :D :D

Hey Roy, just curious. Why didn't you go with used Potenzas?

Pretty simple for me... I already had the S14 engine, plus, I wasn't looking to build either a stock '02tii or an '02 with more power than the chassis, suspension, & brakes could handle. The goal was a unique, resto-mod that was, for the most part, all-BMW... and, I wanted to keep the weight and balance close to the original car.

Absolutely amazing. The s14 looks like it came from the factory. The attention to detail is second to none and I can't wait to see it finished.

It's looking sensational Roy! I must say, initially I wasn't so sure about your wheel choice, but they really work w/ the low offset/big width matched with those Turbo flares.

Can't wait to see one of the E28s at V@V.

Outstanding!!

Are you adding an Aux fuse box or are you going to live within the limits of the original?

MAGNIFICO!

So nice to see new shiny bits going into a clean chassis like that.

Beautiful job Roy.
