Yay. Yet another addition to the already oversaturated 'cross-over' market.
I'm excited, can't you see my excited face?

I've been told the current powers-that-be at BMW AG are interested only in profit. To realize more profit, BMW has to expand their offerings, and they get farther and farther from the sports-car company that made nothing else and was proud of it. Remember the BMW ads that made fun of the fact that Mercedes offered commercial trucks (garbage trucks, too) and BMW made only sport sedans? Well, not anymore. The quest for the almighty Euro is defining the next generation at BMW.
Maybe they can call that ugly thing the "Morono" in honor of the board members who approved it. I'm looking forward to the product launch. |

Jenny Morgan's observation in her recent Roundel column that BMW now designs vehicles in order to sell to the "lowest common denominator" of consumers is dead on. |

| It's a changing world. They either become the BMW that makes 1000 cars a year or the BMW that actually turns a profit. This a generational thing too. Just about every generation that grew up with a certain car design (or during a design transition) more or less dislikes whatever change comes next. Not in all cases, but enough. |

Having now seen a real live Pontiac Aztec in the metal/plastic, I honestly thought I would never in my lifetime see another vehicle that ugly again. I still don't think I will, but geezzz BMW are starting to get dangerously close!
This is a hideous, vile POS and no-one will convince me otherwise, BMW badge on the bonnet or not. |

You've made a good point Mr. E28, but does it have to be so damn hideous? The kidney beans and the emblems are there, but where is the bimmer we all know and love? |

Just imagine when cars are flying. If BMW still exists, they won't share any characteristics at all with their past besides the name and possibly the kidneys. And all the kids that are born from now until then will probably love what they churn out. I do agree that the X6 is very disappointing in execution. They could have done better..but they didn't. |

Isn't this the first fully Bangle designed SUV/SAV, whatever it is? I know the X5 was not penned by him and I'm not sure the X3 was either.
It figures... |

By looking at it, I would be fairly confident in saying yes, it probably is. |

| They'll do a great lease deal and move every one they can build...if Porsche can successfully sell rebadged VW Touareg's as Cayenne's for big bucks, surely BMW can step away from their sports sedan roots and make a buck or two. I find it kind of pathetic that people are buying up X3's like crazy but won't even look at a 3-series touring...better ride, better mileage, better looking, but not cool enough, apparently. |

| My opinion: None of you are in the market for a new BMW anyway, so what difference does it make what the car looks like? Even if you were in the market for a brand new BMW, would you consider an SUV/crossover anyway? Who cares what they come out with, everyone here will still be driving E28's anyway, and that's perfectly fine with me. |

Not as many as somewhere like bimmerforms, but probably more then you think.

It makes a significant difference to me, BMW or otherwise.

Possibly.

The number of people driving e28's is decreasing every day and will continue to decrease more rapidly as time goes on, especially as parts become increasingly difficult to find and more costly.
As recently as when the e46 and e39 were current models (and when I was a "new BMW owner"), BMW seemed to attract and retain a more loyal and enthusiastic group of owners (and lessees). I just don't get that impression anymore, and in the long run I think that's going to lead to the demise of the marque. And that will certainly be something that is relevant to e28 owners. |

Graham is right.
When I buy a new car, the brand means something to me. For example, while the new Caddys are actually nice, especially the STS and the upcoming CTS, when I think of the boat tail Sevilles and beached whale Fleetwoods, and the complete historical lack of attention to safety and quality, I wonder if I am ready to plunk down my hard earned money on one.
Similarly, if I view BMW as a company that just whores itself to the highest bidder, and the most recent trends, it will make me wonder whether I am ready to plunk down my hard earned money on one.
BMW does need to be careful. Mercedes is finding out that you can't put a Merc emblem on a pig and expect it to still sell, even if it is a decent vehicle underneath. The car I am talking about, of course, is the R class. MBUSA is discounting these so heavily now that if you have even a modicum of negotiating skill, you can lease one for what it would cost you to lease a Honda sedan. They're discounting them because they are ugly, plain and simple. BMW needs to be careful of this too. |
