|
|
With a ton of help from quite a few members here, I have finally completed my latest project. Yes, again an e28 M5! I am quite proud of this car as it just came out perfect. I did purchase the car to restore it. I started with an original paint 151k mile car, replaced the dash, windshield, lock strips, seats, and steering wheel. The carpet was completely professionally cleaned. All of the rest of the interior was detailed-down to the seat rails!
The entire undercarriage was power washed, scrubbed, and painted as well as the suspension. The wheels were sent to be powdercoated and the calipers, hats, and gas tank were also painted. The engine compartment was completely scrubbed as well and the hood pads, insulation, fresh air vents, coolant bottle, and all factory stickers were all replaced.
We had to replace the toolbox and the trunk gasket was replaced. The car has the original spare that has never been on the ground. The SLS has been deleted and new Billies were added.
Even though the car is not complete yet, I wanted to put it up for sale, but here are the things that will be completed this week:
Re-paint the hood and trunk (I am not happy with it!)
New clutch, pp, & tob
New cat back to muffler-replaced.
I have done a few M5s in the past that I have put a lot of mods on, but I wanted this car to be as stock as possible. I worked (and several others did as well) seven days a week on this car to painstakinly bring this car to as close to perfection as possible. There were several mods to the car that were replaced with stock items including the shift knob and stereo. The only things left that are non-stock is the steering wheel (I have the correct one if needed) and the SLS. I did like the mild window tint also, so I left it on but will remove it if the buyer wishes.
Like I said, this is and will be a concours car and I would prefer that it remained that way, but if you have to drive it daily it won't hurt my feelings
Offered at $23,500
New price=$19,500
Photos:
Almost forgot, all VIN stickers are in place, clean Carfax, and the car lived in California from new until 138k when it moved to Kentucky. VINWBSDC9304J2791799. The car is located in Huntington Beach, Ca.

Looks like a terrific car.
Did you do any work to the motor?
Good luck with the sale. |

Didn't have to. I drove the car to San Diego (about 80 miles) and back and she pulls like a freight train. I plan on doing a leakdown this week and I will post up the numbers. |

As typical for RonP's projects (and his obvious obsessive nature), this car is a beaut. Saw it this weekend down in SD and drooled (not on it, don't worry).
Good luck with the sale Ron! |

What? $23.5k, and no blue rag!?!
Just kidding. Car looks PERFECT. Sometimes I wonder how the heck it's done. How can a car be over 20, and not be dirty/greasy... |

I know!!! They are hard to find and the person I got the tool kit from didn't have one either. I do recall on the original mye28 board, there was someone that bought up all of them. It might have been Kyle or Shifty? I asked them if they were making a quilt.
I would love to have one?!?!?! Anyone? Bueller? |

On 10-17-08 I talked with Max at Maximillian. He said he had three originals, one of which he's keeping for template while he continues trying to negotiate a deal with BMW to let him produce them. The other two are $86.88 ea. At that price he may still have them.
Good luck selling the M5, a very nice looking car. It seems like your drive to SD last weekend may have been a little more costly than expected. |

| Has the leather been replaced or redyed? The car looks fabulous in the pictures. One thing I did notice is the seat belt receptacles look faded. Is there any way to freshen those up, or do you just need to buy new ones? Good job, Ron! |

For my 6er, I tried various things but couldn't significantly improve the faded red in the belt receivers. I was able to get new belt receivers for all except the left rear.
I removed that one, cleaned and masked very carefully, then shot it with a rattle can of Krylon Fusion for Plastic, #2328 Red Pepper/Signal Red. It's an awfully close color match to the new ones and not overly glossy. I'm not sure what wear and durability might be if this was done on the fronts that will get more use. |

That sounds about right as you would have responded to my funny post about making a quilt out of all the rags that he bought. Tim on the other hand, sometimes lacks a sense of humor. |

I'm wiping the tears from my eyes with a brand new blue rag.
Saw the car this past weekend, and it is very nice!
Needs a sunroof crank tool, though. |

You are SO BAD!!!! She has the s/r crank now. Thanks for the compliment on the car. I worked so hard on that car that I now need to take a nap.....for about a week.....maybe on a tropical island....wait, I just checked my wallet.....better yet, maybe I will just go to bed early as that is all I can afford to do. |

Thanks, Sean! I told you I would make you proud.
By the way (and I should start another post about this), I did buy the car from Sean and I wanted you all to know that Sean is a BIG LIAR!!!! That's right, he described the car that I bought sight unseen, totally worse that it was when it showed up. Anyone doing business with him will be pleasantly suprised when your product/parts,etc. shows up. Great guy! |

I was at Ron P's shop the day after it arrived. Ron surveyed the M5 - he saw potential in making this into a concours example. I saw the car over the next month- Ron spared no expensive to the attention to detail....a matter of fact - I shared a few secrets on products to my Best buddy....LOL!
Seeing the car before her maiden journey to SD was nothing but spectacular!!!!! Ron keeps learning - IMPROVING in his gifted talents for his true LOVE of these 20 yrs old examples...
All the best in the sale..it is worth very penny of the asking price.
Best,
Paul |

| I drove this car when Sean owned it. I was lucky enough to have it for a fall weekend in Central KY. Amazing car. The only M5 I've had the privilege to drive. It made a good weekend great. When Sean had it I thought it was pristine. From the photos, I can see Ron has made it even better. I really wish I had the $23.5k to buy it. |

Thanks HR. I went on a photo shoot last night with Doug Park and the after standing back and looking at all the work that was done, she really is one of a kind. I have been hovering all over the car for a month and a half and just haven't stood back and really had a look at it. Doug said it was the finest example of an e28 M5 that he has ever seen. As soon as Phil does the compression test, we will be putting the car on eBay and in the usual Photopark pics, everyone will all be able to see how perfect the car really is. Happy to hear you had a great experience with the car. I drove it to San Diego last weekend and it truly is a great driving car. |
